Change is rarely fast or easy. It takes time and effort to overcome our bodies and mind’s natural tendency to maintain status quo but it is doable. Starting with small steps and incremental change is key to managing the resistance our body is sure to put up. Go with your strengths (I like writing and have been doing it for years), push a little bit past your comfort zone (putting it out there for people to read is definitely uncomfortable) and create accountability (I promised a weekly posting so feel free to drop me a line if I fall behind or to share your comments) to help you stick to it. Concentrate on it until it no longer feels “forced” then make another small change and repeat. It will take work, but pick the right small step and the right feedback method and the process will have rewards along the way that make the end goal icing on the cake. Resist the urge to make many changes (no matter how small) at once. Stick to one or two max and maintain focus until you are comfortable before doing something new (but listen to your feedback and adjust or move on if the step you picked is simply not moving you forward). Whatever your goals for 2018 take time to find that one small step to move you towards achieving them then start doing it, today.
